5 Social Media Engagement Strategies to Begin Applying Today

So, what is social media engagement? It is the simple act of interacting with others online. There are many ways to boost your profile through social media engagement if you struggle with marketing your small business.  Your organization may have multiple accounts on several platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, but how active are you really on social media? Are you effectively engaging with your customers?  Millions of customers are out there just waiting to engage with your products, services, employees, and brand.

It’s time for your company to become the go-to for information about your industry, service, and product.  Be the brand that others want to follow. Be the organization that educates others and provides a product or service that solves a problem.

Here are some fantastic ways to up your social media engagement.

1. Create Your Own Hashtag for Your Brand or Find Ones That Work for Your Brand

This strategy will help your organization grow by engaging with others following the same hashtags you are using.  When you start out with social media, it is alright to mix them up.  Find what works and mix in a few new ones every few days to reach out to more potential customers.

Be intentional with your hashtags. Google Analytics has a free keyword search that is incredibly helpful.  Put together a list of potential hashtags.  For instance, you may think about plants, gardens, soil, or landscaping if you have a gardening business.  When you put those keywords into the search, Google Analytics will allow you to see how saturated those keywords are and suggest ones being used less frequently to discern which ones work best for you.

2. Commit to Consistency

Being consistent about your engagement on social media is crucial to being successful in reaching new customers.  Have a set time to respond to customers or set up an alert on the social media platform to notify you of questions, concerns, or potential engagements.

The more you engage, the more your customers know that you are available and paying attention. Engagement demonstrates a commitment to your brand.  Instagram is an excellent platform for starting actual conversations online is valuable. You can also level up your performance on Instagram if you have a Facebook account by using click selling which is a way to offer products for sale directly on the platform.

3. Share Your Expertise and Educate

You are an expert in your field, so share your education and knowledge on social media.  It is your business.  You know what you are doing.  Be the spokesperson for your organization:  give advice, educate, and engage.  Many people may not know how to install a fence, choose the right consulting business, or do whatever your business does.

Let them know that you are the expert by sharing your knowledge, actively answering questions, engaging in conversations, and gaining information about the customer through Learn More buttons. This is where you can really show your passion for your brand.  The more you can educate others, the more dominance you show in your field, and the more you demonstrate what you have to offer potential customers.

4. Geotagging

Geotagging is a simple tool with a significant return.  Allow others to see your location when you post. This lets others in the area see what you are posting. On Instagram, there is an area to search under hashtags, and many customers follow their own city.

For example, #phoenix will show you who is in your area, what they are interested in, and their demographics which is valuable information when planning for engagement and finding your customers.

5. Simple Social Media Terms and Daily Strategies

There are some straightforward terms to know when it comes to engagement on social media.  Many campaigns include a Call to Action, which is another way of saying, let’s engage.  Perhaps you are a small nonprofit that wants to engage volunteers to sign-up; that would be a Call to Action. Another Call to Action may be that you want people to learn more about your business.

Impressions are the total number of times social media browsers have been shown your content. Conversion rates measure the people who have seen the post and have taken action on it. If you plan on paying for upgraded ads, you will see a cost per click or how much you are paying for each interaction.

Be passionate about what you do and let it show!  Be the expert in your field and let people know why you are the expert!  Create videos on TikTok to make it fun and educational.  Link all of your social media to your email campaigns, websites, newsletters, and active blogs.  Most of all, be present and engage daily.  Creating a daily calendar of posting ideas can be helpful to keep your brand moving forward. Still, quality is much more effective than quantity.  In the end, these strategies will help you engage, leading to brand identity and appreciation from your social media followers.
