|Is it possible to build a business with nothing but your talent, skills, and maybe a few things that you already have lying around the house? The answer, a resounding “YUP”!Its been said that to make money you need to spend money. I have found some businesses that require little or no money to begin. Instead, these businesses will require a little time and talent.|
|Along with sharing with you the list of businesses, I’ve also decided to include how exactly to make money running these particular businesses. In future posts we will explain how to raise money in order to grow the business you’ve started so you may want to bookmark the site so you can come back later. But, for right now, let’s just see how we can make some money from scratch.
Ah yes, one of my favorite ways to make some extra money. Blogging is not only a way to share your experiences and thoughts with the world, it is also a way to put a little extra change in your pocket. If you are able to communicate your thoughts, ideas, advice, or experience through writing or words (video blogging) then blogging may be for you.
There are several sites that offer free blog hosting so take advantage of those. If you want to look more dynamic and established, purchase your own domain name. You can buy a domain, build a blog, and host it all for about $4 using a site like Bluehost.
How to Make Money: Pay-Per-Click Advertising. Affiliate Sales. Product Sales. Selling Advertising Space.

You might think this is a laughable idea but I have met some very successful dog walkers. No money required to start this business once so ever. All you will need is some time and patience. Liking dogs is also a plus.
The successful dog walkers I have met have done well in neighborhoods where the residents have money but not a lot of time. Upscale apartment complexes are also a good place to find clientele.
How to Make Money: Most walkers charger an hourly rate. Depending on where you live it can range from $7-$15 per ½ hour (Not too bad). You may consider giving discounts if your customers pay you monthly.
There are many jobs that fall into this category: home repair, computer repair, auto repair etc. If you can fix things, there is someone out there looking for you! You may need specific tools in order to start the business but chances are you already have them. This is another type of business that generates clients by word of mouth so be sure to let others know about your repairing skills.
How to Make Money: Most repair services charge per repair or per job. To increase your client base, find out what your competitors are charging and deliver the same service for less.
Another of my favorite ways to make some extra income is by consulting. This is a way to share your knowledge and experience in order to help someone else succeed. If you are knowledgeable in a field, and understand how to succeed in that field, you may have a consulting business on your hands. There are several different types of consultants such as business, organizational, and career consultants.
One of the best parts about being a consultant is that you truly determine what your time is worth. This is a very lucrative industry! The better you are at getting others to succeed the more you will be able to charge.
How to Make Money: Charging an hourly rate or per project is not uncommon. Some consultants are also paid by the results they achieve .
If you are good at math, science, reading, or any other subject, tutoring is for you. This is another industry that may not seem like a very lucrative business but I know quite a few tutors that make a good living showing others how to have scholarly success.
Much the same way consultants help people succeed in business, tutors help individuals succeed in academics. If you are able to help other people understand concepts or have a knack at teaching others how to do something, tutoring may be for you. One of the best ways to gain clients is to tell everyone you know about your tutoring business and let word of mouth do the rest. Also, posting on college campuses and using classifieds like Craig’s List will also give you some exposure.
How to Make Money: Tutors charge hourly and weekly rates. Rates vary depending on the client and their needs.
Mobile Auto Detailing
Mobile auto detailing has grown rapidly in the past few years. Bringing auto detailing directly to someone’s house offers them convenience and saves them time. Who wouldn’t want that? And you won’t go broke starting a detailing business either. You may actually have what you need to start a detailing business in your garage right now.
How to Make Money: Detailers charge per car. As your business and reputation grows, you will be able to charge much more.
Another business that can be started with things already lying around the house is an eBay business. There is no upfront cost for selling items on eBay. Once you get the hang of selling your own stuff, you can expand by finding other products at thrift stores and garage sales and selling them also. I had a friend that made quite a bit of money selling her children’s baby clothes on eBay.
How to Make Money: Be sure to keep your cost low and build the trust of the buyer by not getting bad ratings.
This is a business where you can turn your typing skills into profit. Since many companies are outsourcing administration work, you can run this business from home! I have outsourced admin work in the past and I can tell you from personal experience that this is a great way for businesses to have office work done without having to hire a full-time employee. There is definitely a need for this type of business!
How to Make Money: The best way is to charge a competitive, hourly rate. Also, the better you are at what you do, the more likely you will be hired again and again. I have seen Secretarial Services charge between 10-25 dollars/hr depending on the level of expertise.
Many people struggle with trying to keep things in order. Becoming a Professional Organizer gives you an opportunity to use your own personal organizational skills to help those messy individuals. This service is ideal for people who need structure around them but do not have the time, energy, even the know-how to organize their space.
How to Make Money: Independent Organizers usually charge per hour. There is also a national organization of professional organizers that you may join if you would like more exposure and credentials.
If you are good with words then becoming a freelance writer may be a good way to earn some extra cash. I’ve done some freelance writing at times and from my experience, there are several ways to make income. And just like the other jobs on this list, there is no upfront cost. You will need to go out and find opportunities so begin building a portfolio of your articles.
How to Make Money: Freelancers usually get paid per article that is published. There are several places online where you can sell articles or write for a portion of advertising dollars. Also, you can write for organizational newsletters and magazines.
