Are You Really Prepared to Quit Your Job for Entrepreneurship?

Most people who work a full-time job, but desire to leave their position for entrepreneurship, daydream about the day they will walk out of the office for the last time.  Some even think of how they will tell their boss they quit.  However, most do not think or daydream about the steps they need to take to make sure they are truly ready to sustain themselves on the outside.

Quitting your job to run a business is more than just writing an email that says, “I quit”.  To ensure that you succeed as an entrepreneur, it is best to prepare yourself mentally, financially and emotionally.  We’ve heard dozens of horror stories of aspiring entrepreneurs that left their jobs without being prepared.  We don’t want you to be one of those stories.

Are You Mentally Prepared?

Starting a business can be mentally taxing.  When working for an employer, it is easy to take for granted all of the things you don’t have to worry about.  Things like what needs to be done, how your time is spent, who is the best person to hire, and what products will sell, are usually told to you by the people in charge.  As the person in charge of your business, you will need to know these things.

Are You Financially Prepared?

Losing a paycheck is the number one fear most have about quitting a job for entrepreneurship based on a StartUp Mindset poll.  But not getting paid is only one financial aspect of leaving your job.  What about debt, retirement, savings, managing bills and on and on?  There are several ways to prepare yourself financially to leave your job but, unfortunately, many entrepreneurs don’t know how to until it is too late.  To be ready for the multiple things that may happen, you must be financially prepared.

Are You Emotionally Prepared?

About  7% of the general population report suffering from depression, but a staggering 30% of founders report dealing with its effects according to Business Insider.  Are you emotionally ready for the unexpected things that may be headed your way?

Is Your Business Prepared?

Beyond yourself, your business also needs to be ready to become sustainable.  Getting your business ready to become a venture that will be able to support you and your lifestyle is more than just generating revenue and sales.  It needs to be ready to run as smoothly as possible so that it does not implode.

Our course called Stop Thinking Like an Employee  is here to help!  We’ve developed a whole section on preparing yourself to leave your job.  Each section will contain step-by-step actions you can take to prepare yourself to leave your job and confidently pursue your entrepreneurship aspirations.
