Snapchat is finally starting to share analytics with creators on how well their content is doing. Snap Inc. announced the new feature on Wednesday and will update Snapchatters with a large following on who is viewing their content. The new insights will also include the time spent viewing stories, daily unique story viewers, and audience demographics.
This feature will only be available to the tens of thousands of creators who make official Stories or who have large audiences. Ad money could be a huge influence for this new data information release. It could help Official Story creators show what their total reach is, allowing them to secure sponsored content and product placement deals more easily. This, in turn, will hopefully help Snapchat to keep and to attract new users.
The new release follows a slew of changes CEO Evan Spiegel has been making this year. After a strategy change late last year, Spiegel said “We have historically neglected the creator community on Snapchat . . . In 2018, we are going to build more distribution and monetization opportunities for these creators.” While this new release may help in keeping people from switching to other similar platforms, such as Instagram, it is also a good start to keeping brands happy and satisfied with more information about their time spent on Snapchat.
