7 Ways to Beat the Instagram Algorithm

It’s no secret if you are a business owner and you want to attract more customers, then you need to create an Instagram account for your business. However, with so many users on social media, it may seem a bit hard to feel seen, especially with the horrific algorithm that has caused smaller accounts to get little to no attention. Beating the Instagram algorithm will allow your account to reach more profiles, resulting in more followers, which can lead to more business for you. So if you’re a business struggling to grow on Instagram, then here is how you can beat the algorithm.

Beating the algorithm is not as hard as some may think. However, it is a bit of a science. The key component to beating out the algorithm is knowing your audience and your niche. Once you have those things down, then beating the algorithm will be a piece of cake.

1. Step Up Your Photo Quality

Your photo quality will make or break your Instagram profile, so before you try to beat the algorithm, you’ll need to give your followers a reason to follow you. If people see photos that have poor quality, then they are likely not going to follow you. Therefore, make sure that you brighten up any photos before you post them on social media. Also profiles that have a color story tend to do very well on Instagram, so you may want to consider doing that going forward. A great app for editing is VSCO.

2. Post  More Often

One of the fastest ways to gain followers is by posting content almost daily, which may be exhausting. Posting at least five times a week to your Instagram will allow you to reach more people, and will give you a reason to engage more with your followers. Also, if Instagram sees that you are actively posting, then they are likely to promote your profile more, resulting in you reaching more accounts. Not all of your posts need to be photos, videos also do very well on Instagram, and cause people to engage with your post more.

3. Hashtags are Key

As much as people make fun of hashtags, the truth of the matter is that they are actually a very powerful tool, and will help your Instagram grow if used correctly. In this case, you’ll want to use hashtags that cater to your niche, as well as community hashtags such as #TBT or #motivationmondays. Using hashtags will make your content more searchable, and will potentially reach more people.

The maximum amount of hashtags that Instagram allows is 30; however the minimum amount that you should use is nine. This number of hashtags will allow you to reach enough people without going too heavy on the hashtags. If you want to reach more customers, then you should add more niche-specific hashtags, as well as hashtags that people can follow.

4. Timing is Everything

The time that you post your photo or video on Instagram will determine how many accounts you reach, as well as how many likes you’ll get. If you post in the middle of the night, then you will not reach too many people, and if you post too early the same might happen, which is why you need to find a balance. A great tool that you can use to determine which time is best to post is Tailwind. This site measures the time that your followers are most active on social media. Research also shows that the best day to post on Instagram is Wednesday between 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., and the worst day to post is on Sunday. But this can vary. We published an article on the best time to post on Instagram that goes into more detail on the best time to post for your niche.

5. Engage With Your Followers

One of the greatest things you can do and one of the oldest tricks in the book is engaging with your followers. Every time you post a photo and someone comments on it, you should take the time to reply to their comments. For some reason, Instagram checks to see if you engage with your followers, resulting in them promoting you posts , causing them to reach more people.

Another great tip is for you to actively like and comment on your followers’ posts. This will allow for your profile to be seen by more people. By taking out a few minutes a day to comment and like your followers’ posts, you’ll expose your profile to thousands of people, resulting in new followers.

6. Post Content Related to Your Niche

Remember, you want to attract customers, so people are likely to search for things related to your niche on Instagram. When it comes to your business, you want to make sure that you post content related to your niche. This will make your account more than just a regular page but an actual source of information. Additionally, you’ll come in contact with people that are interested in what your business has to offer, resulting in possible new customers, which is the goal.

7. Do a Giveaway!

Another old trick is doing a giveaway to gain followers. This does not count as buying followers and is in fact organic engagement. If you do a giveaway, one of the requirements can be that your followers need to tag two friends and they have to follow you to be considered. This will cause a chain reaction, and you can potentially gain a few hundred followers in a matter of hours, because who doesn’t like a good giveaway!

It’s a Science

As you can see, beating out the algorithm is not as bad as most people think. The important thing here is to know your followers, and stay true to your niche. This algorithm is designed for people to be active on Instagram, and for people to engage more with each other. Consider it a way for you to connect with your customers.

If you follow the simple guidelines provided in this article, then you are likely to gain new followers in no time. The algorithm is not fair to business, so if you want to grow your account then you’ll need to beat the algorithm!
