How to Keep Your Challenges in Perspective

When you experience challenges, it can feel like life is against you. The mind automatically looks for the simplest solution to things which can often mean you’ll feel like you should quit. We are faced with challenges all the time. Anything from starting a new course, a new life, or a new job. If you see the common theme here, it’s change. You take on more challenges and it becomes the way you grow and develop. It’s a good thing, but it’s not always easy to remember that.

The Reward of Meeting Challenges with an Open Mind

All the advice that’s given out today about getting what you want comes down in part to how you manage a challenge. The more challenges you overcome, the more confidence you have to try even harder things in life. Learning to see challenges differently is what you need to become highly successful, obtain all the goals you want in life, and to really enjoy your life. When you cower from challenges, you can tend to become more afraid of living.

Is This the Hardest or Worst Thing You’ve Ever Done?

One of the important questions you can ask to put challenges into perspective is looking back on your life so far. The more you overcome challenges, the more this powerful question will give you courage. Maybe the challenge you’re facing is the hardest thing you’ve ever done up until now. Imagine how you’ll feel when the next challenge comes along and you can say, “no, this challenges doesn’t even come close to that other occasion.”

Thinking Logically about the Situation

Many times, challenges are something that are easy for some while hard for others. We bring our baggage to a challenge and it weighs us down. It feels insurmountable. The ego will naturally want to cause you great stress. It wants to prevent you from even trying to meet a challenge. The mind wants to keep you safe. If there is an experience you’ve never tried before, that causes the brain to react negatively towards it.

There is an unseen future and the ego wants to control everything. It’s why we feel afraid to go down a waterslide or jump off a rock into the water. We have to do it quickly or countdown to temporarily distract the mind from it stopping the muscles in our body from moving. When you feel afraid of a challenge, ask yourself if it’s your ego playing tricks on you.

Understand the Rewards

When you overcome challenges, you receive indirect and direct benefits. Say you take on the challenge of owning your own business. Not only do you get to live out your dreams but you also gain valuable confidence. The building block of knowing you can do anything will help you to achieve further goals. If you’ve ever paid attention to the most successful people, they gained momentum in their success. Sure, they experienced challenges along the way but when you overcome so much, you know you can overcome things.

You don’t quit moving forward. You continue to challenge yourself and the boundaries of your success. It becomes something you simply don’t fear any longer. The more you move through challenges, the smaller those mountains become.

Focus on the Opportunity, Not the Fear of Failure

Ironically, it is the fear of failure that stops us from wanting to take on new challenges. It’s the fear that we won’t get what we want. So instead of trying to get what we want, we avoid disappointment and create a life where there is certainty we will not get what we want. We see ourselves failing. We visualize it until we actually get a lump in our throat.

Why not try the alternative which is visualizing what it would feel like to overcome the challenge and get what you want. Trying to remain in your comfort zone is not always comfortable either. You know somewhere deep down that you are avoiding life. You put yourself in a cage of your own making and it becomes harder to get out. You miss out on opportunities that are what we are here to experience. You fail to live a life that is true.

How Challenges Help you to be Authentic

Authenticity of your life and taking on challenges go hand in hand. You can’t sit on the sidelines and expect to receive what you truly desire. If you work for someone else but you have always dreamed of owning your own business, pursuing that dream will come with its challenges. If you were meant to do it though, those challenges are what will be responsible for creating that dream life you seek.

Start Seeing Challenges As Awesome

Being open to new experiences and embracing the challenges is a way to learn about yourself. This shouldn’t be something you shy away from. It is the purpose of our existence in many ways. You may face some of your fears but you can also beat them and then feel much less afraid about living in general. You move past boundaries that have prevented you from getting the things you want.

This authenticity that you need in order to take on challenges and gain success means you won’t let others dictate your life. You’ll do your own thing. You will likely have people looking up to you because you did what many can’t. You moved forward in your life despite fears you had. When you realize that those fears are unfounded, you can transform it into enthusiasm as you take on more challenges.

No matter what you want in life, you are going to face things you haven’t before. We weren’t designed to stop learning after five years old. Challenges will always be there for us to learn and grow. They are not a bad things and as soon as you see them as a building block to bettering yourself, the sky will be the limit.
