If you have noticed your iPhone has slowed down considerably recently, you aren’t imagining it. Apple has confirmed in a statement on Thursday saying that it has used software updates to limit the performance of older iPhones. This is due to battery issues that could cause them to shut off suddenly.
This statement comes after reports showing that operating system updates have caused older iPhones to slow considerably. Apple claims that these updates were not made to encourage users to buy a new iPhone, but instead it was due to the fact that the performance of lithium-ion batteries degrades over time, causing the phones to turn off without warning in order to protect the phone.
Apple said that its software updates for the iPhone 6, iPhone6S, iPhone6E and iPhone7 will “smooth out” peak power demands and hopefully eliminate any shutdowns. The problems can become worse when it is cold or the battery is low. To reduce power consumption, your phone’s processors will not complete a task immediately, but instead, it will spread out the task over more attempts.
The phone slowdown has caused a huge outcry, leading many people to say that they may switch to a new phone brand, including rival Samsung.
