Here’s How to Start a Business in All 50 States in America

General Steps to Starting a Business

There are a few general steps you need to take to start a business once you’ve identified your business idea.  One of the first steps is to decide whether you will be operating as a sole proprietor, a Limited Liability Corporation, a partnership, etc.  From there you will want to decide on your business name and then register your Federal tax ID.  You can do this by acquiring an Employer Identification Number (EIN)—also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number (you can use your social security number if you are a sole prop or a single member LLC even though it is recommended that you get an EIN).  You will need a Federal Tax Id in order to open a business bank account.
